The time trial event of the French championships brought mixed emotions for the ARKEA–B&B HOTELS team. Kévin Vauquelin is French time trial vice-champion, 3” from the national title. Thibault Guernalec takes the bronze medal.

There is obviously disappointment. I think my management of the race was good. I come back to the end of the race, which was more “punchy”, and at that moment, I was able to play on my qualities. Despite the disappointment, I don't have too many things to regret either. It's always difficult to miss a goal by so little. I arrived at this first race of the French championships with as many ambitions as possible. I was in the right frame of mind and, in the end, it didn't matter much. It's not a complete failure either.

I don’t know what to say after this third place. I'm very emotive. This is a goal that I had set for myself for several years. I felt that this season could smile on me. There were openings and I hoped I would be able to seize those opportunities. I think I managed my effort well and I gave everything in the last kilometers to get this medal. Finishing on a podium was a career goal. I succeeded but it doesn’t stop there. There is the national title above and I will continue to work to get there.

The title of French time trial champion was a goal for the ARKEA–B&B HOTELS team. Kévin falls to second place for three seconds. We can remake the world to find out where these were lost but it remains a timed test. There is disappointment and also great satisfaction to see Thibaut on the third step. What we must remember is that we have two riders on the podium of the French time trial championships and young people arriving behind (Baptiste Gillet, 10th, and Pierre Thierry, 13th) and that is positive. These French championships are not over. We are close to our lands. Can't wait for Sunday for the road race.
