Jenthe Biermans close to win the Muscat Classic for a seonc time

Jenthe Biermans, winner in 2023 and absent in 2024, came close to repeating his feat in the Muscat Classic. The Belgian rider from the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team took 2nd place in the Muscat Classic on Friday.

I was very happy to come back to Oman and to this Muscat Classic. You always want to win but it's a good 2nd place and I'm happy with that. It was a more difficult race than 2 years ago, when I won it in 2023. There were a lot more attacks. I was a bit on the limit at the top of the last climb, but I still managed to move up with the peloton. I put everything into the descent to get back up. I was full of energy in the sprint, so I'm really happy to be on the podium. There were only a few sprinters who ‘survived’ the final difficulties. We managed to get through. I knew that if I managed to hang on to the peloton, I'd be able to get a good result for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team and myself as an individual. So I'd like to thank the whole team today.

Jenthe really gave it his all. The last two climbs went up very quickly and he was the last rider to switch. He knew that by switching, he had a chance of taking part in the sprint behind. He gave his all to cross the summit with the peloton. Of course, he didn't have enough in the final bunch sprint. It's always frustrating to come so close to victory. But as I said to him after the finish, if he hadn't given everything in that climb, he wouldn't have been there in the sprint. There are no regrets. The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team took its responsibilities today and rode when there were breakaways in front. We saw a team united around our leaders. This second place is a reward for our efforts on the first day, but we'll be aiming to do even better in the Tour of Oman, which starts tomorrow.
