Maeva Squiban comes 2nd in Le Grand Bornand!

Maeva Squiban from Brittany took 2nd place in the 7th stage of the Tour de France Women's race. It was the first podium finish in the history of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Women's team in the Tour de France.

It was an incredible stage! The French victory on stage 6 on Friday inspired us. We said to ourselves that we could do it, and 2nd place is great! On the last climb, I heard that there were only 25 girls at the front. Once a lot of the leaders' team-mates had pulled away, I felt there was an opening and I went for it. The attack wasn't necessarily premeditated. After that, all I had to do was go all the way to the line. It's a dream to be on the podium in a stage of the Tour de France. Now there's just one more place to win. Kévin Vauquelin's victory has certainly inspired us. It's been a driving force. At the moment, the men's team has a one victory lead over the women's team in the Tour de France, but we still have one more stage to go on Sunday. If we could draw level, that would be great! (smiles)

We did a very good stage on this first big mountain stage. Our primary objective was to get into the breakaway. We missed it, but then the group rallied, because we knew that the final climb didn't have any steep gradients. Maaike Coljé and Michaela Drummond worked hard to put Maeva Squiban, Lotte Claes and Valentina Cavallar at the foot of the final climb. From the start of the climb to Chinaillon, where the finish was judged, Maeva attacked. This allowed Lotte and Valentina to keep up with the favourites. Maeva put in a great performance, catching all the riders in the breakaway, with the exception of the day's winner. A very fine 2nd place. Behind her, Lotte Claes and Valentina Cavallar finished in the top 15 with the best. The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team put in a great collective performance today.
