Maeva Squiban sprints to 2nd place

Maeva Squiban took 2nd place in the 1st stage of the Tour de la Semois after a small group sprint.

I'm satisfied with my race. We, the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team, were very present today. About fifteen kilometres from the finish, a small group came out with Océane Mahé. I thought it might be a good time to go. I managed to get in and saw that some of the favourites had been trapped. Océane Mahé rode to maintain the gap. In the end it all came together and it came down to a sprint. I came 2nd, which was good but also a bit frustrating. But there was no contest, I was beaten by stronger riders today. We'll see what happens tomorrow on the 2nd and final stage. What's positive is that the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team riders were good today, and that's really encouraging for Saturday and the final day of racing because we'll have several cards up our sleeves.

There was a power move in the peloton halfway through the race which helped to reduce it considerably. We had Titia Ryo, Océane Mahé, Maeva Squiban and Clémence Latimier at the front. On the last 2 short laps, a group emerged with Maeva Squiban. Maeva arrived for the win. It was a good thing, as she took 2nd place in the stage and the same position in the overall classification. She's been putting in a string of good performances since the Tour de France Femmes, and she's doing so with great regularity. Today she was in class 2, but when you look at the top 10 and the competition, you can see that the level is high. So it's a good result.
