Raúl García Pierna takes his first top 10 in a World Tour time trial

Raúl García Pierna took 8th place in the time trial at the Tour of Poland on Tuesday, his first top 10 finish in a solo effort at World Tour level. Thanks to this performance, he moves up to 11th place in the overall classification.

I'm here recovering from my first Tour de France. I think I put in a good performance in this time trial. It was a tough final, but I gave it my all and I'm happy with my performance. I've moved up a few places in the general classification. Now, I'm taking it one day at a time: the aim is to look higher, while being aware that this is a recovery race with its share of uncertainties and a very high level. There are still some important stages and the overall classification should change.

It was a time trial in 2 parts: the first part was a flat climb, followed by a final uphill section that repeated the last 7 kilometres of yesterday's stage. Raúl García Pierna set a very good time and managed it well. It shows that he has recovered well from the Tour de France. Alessandro Verre was also in the match today, in 14th place. They are beating some very good riders and proving that they are in excellent form by being in the top 20 overall. Nevertheless, there are still some big stages left and we'll see how things develop as the days go by.
