Young Breton rider Ewen Costiou showed himself to be at his best in the Trofeo Laigueglia. He finished 12th in this demanding event, which opens the season in Italy.

I was feeling really good today and the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team did a good job of getting me into position at the start of the final circuit around Laigueglia. The race really started on the second lap, 25 kilometres from the finish, in Capo Mele. I immediately tried to get into the battle with the top riders. The race configuration froze somewhat when four riders broke away on the other climb of the circuit, the Colla Micheri. I was in a counter group from which two riders - who were coming from behind - managed to get away on the last descent. I didn't anticipate the sprint like they did. There was a way of getting a better result, but the most important thing is that I am more confident about my shape.

The aim was to have an ARKEA-B&B HOTELS rider at the front to act as a support point and give a helping hand on the final circuit, which is known to be difficult and technical. Victor Guernalec played this role to perfection. The whole ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team was centred around Ewen Costiou. I'd particularly like to highlight the excellent collective work done for our leader. Everyone sacrificed when they had to. In the final, Ewen was there. If he'd been a better strategist, he could have hoped for a better result. Nevertheless, he finished in sixth place, just 20 seconds behind the winner in a race of this level. It's very encouraging for Ewen to see that he fight with the top riders, it's important for his confidence.
