Victor Guernalec took his first professional win on Wednesday in the 2nd stage of the Région Pays de la Loire Tour.

I'm so happy! I still don't quite realise what's happening to me. It was a violent effort in the final. The team needed a win and this one rewards the whole ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team, staff and riders. I came to this Région Pays de la Loire primarily to help my leaders Kévin Vauquelin and Ewen Costiou. Initially, I attacked on the last lap to help them as they approached the line. But when I saw that the finish was approaching, I thought I could play my card. When the peloton doesn't come back with three kilometres to go, I start to believe in it. That's why I launched my sprint from a distance. I was a bit stressed at the kilometre mark about winning the professional race. When I saw my rivals start early, I felt they were less serene than I was. I took the initiative so that I could keep as much speed as possible in the final. And the closer I got to the line, the more it became a mental battle between me and the peloton.

We race to win races, that's our objective. We knew the circuit would be tough and difficult for the sprinters. The plan was to start with thirty kilometres to go. So Ewen went on the offensive at that point. Victor then took over and rode a strong final to claim his first professional win, the 4th of the season for ARKEA-B&B HOTELS WorldTour.
