Cristián Rodríguez has long raced alongside the best on this first mountain stage. Mathis Le Berre retains the polka dot jersey for best climber.

I felt good after the time, I had even achieved a good time. But yesterday's fall left its after-effects, I fought against the pain. 4 kilometers from the finish, it was even stronger, all the way to the top, and I let go. My head is fine, my form too, but last night I had difficulty sleeping. Afterwards it’s like that, many runners in the peloton are like me with pain. We must make do. I gritted my teeth in the finale to give up as little time as possible.

I was keen to make a breakaway on this Critérium du Dauphiné, to “let off steam” by spending a day in front of it. I didn't fall yesterday, so I told myself that it was my turn, today within the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team, to take the breakaway. The start was tough because many runners wanted to be at the front. We never had too much margin, because big leaders - proof - were interested in stage success. I gave my all at the foot of the Collet d'Allevard, trying to get into my rhythm, but the peloton quickly fell on me. I also went ahead to help Mathis Le Berre in winning the best climber jersey. Being in front, I was able to try to grab a few points that his potential opponents were unable to take from him for this secondary classification. I hope that Mathis will conquer this jersey, he made three great escapes, and deserves to have it on his shoulders Sunday evening, but we all know that it will be “muscular” until the end.

The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team once again raced ahead on this 5th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné, this time with Thibault Guernalec in the breakaway. That was the plan. We decided to be offensive again to try to win a stage. This made it possible to secure Mathis Le Berre's polka dot jersey, as well. Thibaut then gave a final “helping hand” on the climb of Collet d’Allevard to Cristián Rodríguez. The latter who, like many runners, fell yesterday, fought to the end of this stage and this last climb despite pain. Hat. Mathis Le Berre keeps the polka dot jersey for this Critérium du Dauphiné.
