Arnaud Démare sprints to the 2nd place

Arnaud Démare claimed his first podium of the season on Thursday in the 2nd stage of the Etoile de Bessèges, which finished in a sprint in the streets of Marguerittes.

I was in the wheel of Soudal-Quick Step with a kilometre to go and then we were overtaken by Ineos Grenadiers. I waited a bit before starting my sprint. I came up against a very strong Waerenskjold, but 2nd place is a good result for this early-season warm-up. The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team worked well together at the front of the peloton today. It's great to be able to work in these conditions.

Arnaud put in a really good sprint. He was there for us in this slightly perilous final. We're very close to victory. The objectives today were to put Arnaud in the best possible conditions for the final of this second stage of the Étoile de Bessèges, but also to protect Kévin Vauquelin. I'd also asked them to work together as a team in the final. Just like we did yesterday. That was respected. We need to continue in the same way for the next stages.
