At the end of a hilly final, Embret Svestad-Bårdseng took 4th place in the streets of San Daniele del Friuli, having been in the match with the favourites for a while.

Things went better than yesterday, and yet it didn't ‘switch off’ all day. A breakaway with Jean-Loup Fayolle didn't form until the first of the last two laps. The group of favourites attacked and I managed to follow three of them who were well placed in the general classification. At the top of the last climb, I was unfortunately 200 or 300 metres short of them. That's my only regret. All my team-mates in the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team did a good job today. We've got one more stage tomorrow. It won't offer much in the way of relief, and the sprinters' teams will certainly want to control the race. But you never know what might happen. We'll have to remain vigilant if we want to hold on to this top 5 overall.

4th place is a good result. It's a shame that Embret lost contact with Nordhagen and Torres 200 metres from the top of the last climb, because this duo had come back to the front to challenge for victory. Nevertheless, it was a good day and we had a good race. Jean-Loup Fayolle had anticipated the battle and finished just outside the top 10, in only his first season as a professional. The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Développement team's attitude and spirit were very positive. We'll have to be vigilant tomorrow. We've been on a roll since the start of this race. There may be some openings. You never know...
