Cobblestones, maybe wind and difficult weather conditions are often the order of the day at the Grand Prix de Denain and the Bredene Koksijde Classic, two events for the “Flandriens” of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team.

The Grand Prix de Denain is a race that matches the qualities of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team riders who will be taking part in this event, which covers more than twenty kilometers of cobblestones. It's a great race that's very similar to Paris-Roubaix. It appeals to me and to many of my team-mates. We'll have several cards up our sleeves in this competition, and that's good because the Grand Prix de Denain always offers plenty of movement, and can also give rise to race facts linked to the nature of the terrain and the cobbles that grace the route of this fine French event. We have to at least aim for the podium in the Grand Prix de Denain, because it's a race for strong riders. And we're strong in this type of race. We need to get a result together there.

I'm the outgoing winner of the Bredene Koksijde Classic and this race obviously means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to returning this season. It's a race where, as is often the case in Belgium, the weather and wind can have an influence on the course. There are some big transition sections that are out in the open. Before thinking about the climb up Mont Kemmel, you have to stay focused. It's not a hard course, not as difficult as some of the Flanders events, but be careful nonetheless. As far as the technical parts are concerned, you really need to be positioned, attentive and understand how the race is managed. They're always physical tests. It's a competition that can offer great opportunities, like the ones I seized last year.

The Grand Prix de Denain and the Bredene Koksijde Classic are two beautiful semi-classics in the Flanders monument calendar. Last year, Bredene Koksijde Classic was won by Luca Mozzato in a perfect sprint. It's also a race that takes in Mont Kemmel. The Grand Prix de Denain, which opens this “Week of the North”, is a sort of dress rehearsal for Paris-Roubaix, with twenty kilometers of cobblestones to negotiate, spread over thirteen sectors. We'll have our classics riders on these two events with Luca Mozzato, Amaury Capiot and Jenthe Biermans. Arnaud Démare, who has made a fine start to the season, will be competing in the Bredene Koksijde Classic. Florian Sénéchal, whom we're thinking of, will be missing for all these cobbled Flandrian classics, races whose first starting point is the Grand Prix de Denain on Thursday.
