The week of Italian races continues on the Adriatic coast for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team with the Memorial Marco Pantani on Saturday and the Trofeo Matteotti on Sunday.

The Memorial Marco Pantani will be my recovery race after the Vuelta. I've tried to optimise my recovery as much as possible this week, with naps, pressotherapy and training rides to prevent my body from ‘resting’. I was very happy with the way I felt at the Vuelta, so I hope I'll still be in good shape this weekend. We've got a great team for this type of race. We'll do the maths at the top of the last climb.

It's the first time I'll be contesting this event in Pescara. There's one difficulty on this circuit, which we'll be doing 13 times. It's this repetition of effort that's going to be really wearing. It could be a race of movement. As I won't be taking part in the Memorial Marco Pantani the day before, I'm banking on this race. But I know that if it doesn't go my way, the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team will have other great cards to play for victory in the sprint.

The Memorial Marco Pantani is a bit like what we saw on Wednesday's Giro della Toscana, with long climbs and then a flat final 40 kilometres to Cesenatico. It's often the strongest riders who emerge at the head of the difficulties. For a single rider it will be difficult, but for a small group it's possible. Once again, as in this series of Italian races, it should be the attacking riders who come out on top. On Sunday in the Trofeo Matteotti, the entire race will be run on a circuit. It will certainly be more open. We could see a good group battling it out for victory. We'll have some fast riders with us, including Vincenzo Albanese and Jenthe Biermans, who will be relying on his freshness, having not competed in the Memorial Marco Pantani the day before, unlike the majority of the peloton.
