On Friday, Kévin Vauquelin finished at the foot of the podium in the second edition of the Classic Var, which finished at the top of the Mur de Fayence.

The finish was a bit technical and chaotic. We knew that was the plan. We got a bit scared before the U-turn, because we were a bit far back. Ewen Costiou sacrificed himself for me. He gave it 100% and did everything he could to get us back up there. Thanks to him for riding like that. We're back in the top five. Edoardo Zamperini did an amazing job after that. I was right where I needed to be. Maybe I was missing a cartridge at the end. I'm a bit disappointed with my handling of the Mur de Fayence, because when I made my effort it was too late. We were already on the last bend. I think I could have done better. But I really want to pay tribute to the hard work of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team. Everyone did what they had to do during this Classic Var.

At the briefing, we said that the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team would take responsibility for this race, around Kévin Vauquelin and Ewen Costiou. When you have a rider who is capable of winning, you have to know how to take responsibility. After that, whether the other teams take them on or not is none of our business. Everyone is free to choose their own race strategy. This Classic Var comes down to a few things. Kévin may be making a mistake in his management at the moment when he has to make his effort. He didn't do it at the right time and then he realised he'd done it too late. He finished 4th and that was a bit disappointing. What's reassuring is that he's there physically. On Saturday and Sunday, the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team will be at the start of the Tour des Alpes Maritimes and it will be another day of racing.
